About Thunder

Thunder Jin (b. 1989, Osaka, Japan) is a provocative filmmaker and visual artist recognized for his daring exploration of human psychology, power dynamics, and taboo subjects. Often described as one of Japan’s most underground auteurs, Jin has built a reputation for pushing the limits of visual storytelling with his uncompromising and visceral style.

After studying Film & Performance Arts at Nihon University College of Art, Jin became immersed in Tokyo’s experimental cinema scene, working with independent theaters and performance troupes in Shinjuku during the early 2000s. His early short films, Chains of Silence (2006) and The Crimson Veil (2008), gained cult recognition at late-night screenings in Shibuya, blending performance art, choreography, and extreme psychological tension.

In 2011, his breakthrough feature “Iron Skin, Velvet Heart” premiered at the Osaka Underground Film Festival, winning the Special Jury Prize for its raw, unapologetic depiction of dominance and vulnerability.
